Safe Driving Includes Avoiding Aggressive Drivers in Florida

Driving safely in Florida means adhering to a number of cautionary practices. The hot weather in the Sunshine State has many benefits, but the intense heat can take a toll on a car’s tires. To be safe, drivers are wise to check their treads for deterioration on a regular basis. They should also look for cracks or uneven wear in the treads, which may signal a problem. It is also important that drivers avoid overloading their cars. Finally, driving safely means everyone in the vehicle should buckle their seatbelts.

Taking the aforementioned precautions before you set out helps you stay safe on the roads. But you also need to be aware of aggressive drivers when out on the roads, and try to minimize encounters with them. Aggressive driving is such a serious problem that the Florida Department of Transportation has designated it as one of eight emphasis areas in the state’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan.

An aggressive driver may commit any of the following violations:

• Following too closely
• Failing to yield the right of way
• Changing lanes in an improper or unsafe manner
• Passing improperly
• Failing to obey traffic signs and signals
