Employment Discrimination

For many Florida employees, employment is "at will" — meaning an employee may quit the job at will, for any reason. The employer has the same right to terminate the employment relationship at will, for any reason, except that an employer may not take action against an employee for any reason that is prohibited by a valid written employment contract or by state, local or federal law. For instance, there are both federal and Florida laws which prohibit employers from discriminating against an employee or prospective employee based on certain protected characteristics, including the person's:

Race, color, national origin, religion, gender, or marital status

The laws prohibiting employment discrimination can be fairly complex, with strict applications and deadlines, which demand specialized knowledge, experience and skill.
